Simon Van Vliet, Director of Research

Simon Van Vliet is completing a Specialized Graduate Diploma in Cultural management at HEC Montréal and has been collaborating since 2009 with the University–Community Research Alliance – Financial crisis in the arts sector: prevention rather than cure, by addressing the issues and challenges of resource sharing within the cultural sector of Quebec.

Bachelor in Social development and social analysis from Université du Québec à Rimouski, he has been demonstrating versatility and professionalism in his different undertakings. Before joining ArtExpert’s team, he realized several mandates in project management, research and communications : Development agent for Équilibre Travail-Études project at Carrefour Jeunesse-Emploi de Verdun ; Workshop leader at the Second Estates General of professional Dance, organised by the Regroupement québécois de la Danse ; On site public information coordinator for the Montreal International Jazz Festival and the Francofolies de Montréal ; Research Auxiliary for ARUC – Les crises financières dans le secteur des arts : prévenir plutôt que guérir ; Programming assistant at CISM 89.3 FM (where he also hosts a weekly show). Since April 2010, he is also coordinating the Cultural Mentorship Program in Montreal.

During his undergraduate studies he also participated in research projects on the social acceptability of wind farm installations’ establishment in eastern Quebec and on the impact of wind energy development on tourism in Gaspésie. From these diverse research experiences, he acquired skills, methods and techniques used for qualitative studies (documentary analysis, research interviews, etc.) or for quantitative enquiries (surveys, statistics, etc.).
