Montreal, April 14, 2010 – Following the cultural development policy, adopted in 2005  – the cultural metropolis of Montréal, it’s boroughs and the city undertook an initiative which aimed to review the action taken by the Municipal Network for Cultural Dissemination in order to clarify and put into play a collective mission better geared towards the new realities facing Montréal as well as to identify the steps necessary to achieve their goals. The Environmental Scan performed by Art Expert in collaboration with Mc Conseil, which helped to realize the Action Plan for 2010-2014 will be the subject of a public consultation in which you are invited to participate. The Environmental Scan is a major component of the Accès culture network’s effort for the city of Montréal. The Environmental Scan covers activities organized by 22 arts presenters (performing arts and exhibition facilities) in Montréal in 2007.

Based on the Environmental Scan’s findings, Art Expert formulated several recommendations concerning the cultural presentation, the offer, demand, cultural facilities, as well as human and financial resources. The Environmental Scan reveals that the network has presents over 2, 292 professional cultural activities, of which 2, 113 have been performing arts presentation. The network proposed 179 exhibitions, mainly in the visual arts, and attracted 603 812 participants (446 109 spectators for performing arts presentations and 157 703 visitors to exhibitions).

The young audience including students represents 25% of total audience. Performances offered by Accès culture present the next generation of artists enrolled in art schools. Music, theater and dance constitute the disciplines most frequently presented.
When enacting the Action plan, the network’s priority will be to consolidate the offer throughout Québec while maintaining specificity in terms of multi disciplinary plans, next generations of artists, cultural diversity as well as support for artistic residencies.
